Mercedes A/C Questions

Can’t you just recharge it and see if it holds?

I can – but if it’s low, the refrigerant went somewhere, and it will go there again. A proper leak test finds the source so you’re not paying for a recharge every summer. Topping off without diagnosis is the most expensive “cheap fix” in A/C work.

Why is only one side of my car blowing cold?

Almost always a blend door actuator or a temperature sensor issue on the warm side – the system is producing cold air, it’s just not being routed correctly. It’s a common Mercedes complaint and very diagnosable once you test the actuators rather than guessing.

That smell when I turn on the A/C – what is it?

Usually microbial growth on the evaporator from North Carolina humidity, sometimes aggravated by a clogged cabin filter or drain. We clean and treat the evaporator, replace the filter, and check the drain – and show you how to minimize it going forward.

My Mercedes A/C is blowing warm. Do I just need a recharge?

Maybe – but “blowing warm” has several causes: low refrigerant from a slow leak, a failing compressor, a bad valve, an electrical fault. Dave diagnoses the actual cause first, because the fix (and the cost) depends on it. The diagnosis is part of your free quote.

How much is an A/C recharge?

An R134a A/C recharge is $139.99 – evacuate, vacuum, refill to factory spec, verify it’s blowing cold. If the diagnosis finds a leak or a failed part instead, you’ll know exactly what and what it costs before any work starts.

Will a recharge fix it if there’s a leak?

Temporarily, at best. A sealed system that’s low got that way for a reason, and topping it off without fixing the leak means you’ll be back. Dave finds the leak and fixes the source – that’s the repair that actually holds.

Do you work on the dual-zone / rear climate systems?

Yes. Dave’s 16 years at leading dealerships were spent on exactly these cars and their climate systems – front, rear, dual-zone, all of it. European A/C isn’t a mystery here; it’s the day job.
