Signs Your A/C Needs Attention
- Blowing warm or lukewarm. The classic. If the air never gets properly cold, the system is low on refrigerant or something in the loop isn’t doing its job.
- Weak airflow. Cold-ish air that barely pushes through the vents points to a blower or restriction issue rather than a refrigerant problem.
- It starts cold, then fades. A/C that’s icy for ten minutes and warm by the time you’re on US-64 usually means a component is failing under heat and load.
- Strange smells. A musty or sour smell when the A/C kicks on typically means moisture and microbial buildup in the evaporator area.
- Unusual noises. Clicking, rattling, or grinding when the compressor engages is the system telling you something mechanical is wearing out.
- Visible leaks or oily residue. Refrigerant leaks often leave an oily trace at fittings, hoses, or the compressor. If you spot something, mention it in your quote request.
How the Diagnostic Process Works

Typically, the process starts with your description, then a performance test of the system as it sits, a check of pressures on both sides of the loop, and an inspection for leaks – dye testing where it makes sense – plus the electrical side: compressor clutch engagement, blower operation, control module behavior.
