If you own a Mercedes, your dashboard has told you - or will tell you - that Service A or Service B is due. Most owners know the letter. Fewer know what the letter actually means, what gets done, and what it should cost. Here’s the straight version.

The System: Alternating Maintenance

Mercedes runs its maintenance on an alternating schedule: Service A, then Service B, then A, then B, roughly every 10,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. (Your car’s Flexible Service System tracks it and tells you when you’re due - trust the car on timing.)

Service A is the lighter visit. Service B is the more thorough one. They alternate for the life of the car. That’s the whole system - everything else is detail.

What’s Actually Done at Service A

Service A is fundamentally an oil service plus a comprehensive check-over. The core of it: engine oil and filter replaced, fluid levels checked and corrected across the board, tire pressures set, brakes inspected, and a multi-point look at the things that wear - wipers, lights, belts, hoses.

At Hyperformance Garage, Mercedes Service A is $199. That covers the service done right: Mobil 1 fluids, correct-spec filter, and an inspection by a master tech with 16 years at leading dealerships - someone who knows what early wear looks like on these cars and flags it before it becomes a repair.

What’s Actually Done at Service B

Service B is everything in A, plus more. The additional items typically include cabin air filter replacement, brake fluid exchange, and a deeper inspection scope - more of the car gets measured, checked, and documented. It’s the visit that catches the things an oil change doesn’t.

At Hyperformance Garage, Mercedes Service B is $299. Same standard: genuine Mercedes-Benz parts where the service calls for them, Mobil 1 fluids, dealer-trained eyes on the whole car.

One note on pricing, because honesty matters here: those prices are except AMG and V12 models. The high-performance and twelve-cylinder cars take more of everything - more oil, more specialized parts, more time. If you drive one, your quote will reflect that, and you’ll know the number before anything happens.

“Do I Really Need Both?”

Yes - and in order. The alternating schedule exists because different things wear on different timelines. Skipping B and doing two As in a row means the deeper inspection items never happen, which is how small things become big things. The schedule is also what keeps your service history clean, and a clean service history is worth real money when you sell the car.

What you don’t need is the dealership waiting room. An independent specialist with dealer training follows the same factory checklist. The shop is ASE-certified, and the work is done by people with 35+ years of combined European expertise.

What About the Things They Find?

This is where Service A and B earn their keep beyond the checklist: the inspection. A good tech doesn’t just change the oil - he notices the seeping gasket, the tire wearing on one edge, the brake pad with one service left in it. Here, they become part of your free quote: what’s found, what it costs, what can wait. You decide with real information.

And everything found that turns into a repair carries the shop’s standard backing: a 24-month / 24,000-mile warranty on qualifying repairs - in writing, on the invoice.

Due for A or B?

Don’t overthink the letter - the car knows which one it’s asking for, and Dave will confirm it. What’s worth doing is getting it done on time, by someone who specializes in these cars.

Request your free quote - tell Dave the model, the year, and which service the dash is asking for. Quotes are always free - diagnosis is part of the quote, so there’s no separate diagnostic fee. Free, no-obligation quote - I reply personally to every request. Work 9-5 too? After-hours drop-off is available - just mention it in your message.
